Squares, spirals and slivers form the new shapes of chandeliers by Schonbek Worldwide Lighting Inc. Called Geometrix, these high-tech, low voltage lights designed by Schonbek with Strass crystal by Swarovski come in 37 colors and have a higher refractive index for exceptional radiance. “The quality of light is intense and bright,” says Eileen Schonbek Beer, creative director for Schonbek. To get the full effect, a DVD comes with the catalog for this new line of pendants, wall sconces and chandeliers, which takes Schonbek away from traditional and into “living light.”

“It’s a whole new avenue for Schonbek. People are ready for it,” says Holly Miles, buyer for Annapolis Lighting. “We haven’t seen anything like it,” says Randy Rollins, owner of House of Lighting in Richmond. “When people see it, they’ll be amazed.” The colors and designs are gorgeous, adds the owner of Bethesda Sunlighting, Abbey Toufanian.

“Crystal is timeless,” says Nancy Trumbull, assistant manager of Burgess Lighting in Fairfax. “This particular series lends itself to a transitional style, i.e. modern, contemporary or Arts and Crafts. It’s lovely and versatile.” With styles varying from elegant to dramatic to fun, lighting spaces can be crystal color.

Retail prices range from $179 to $4,999 with most selling in the $300 to $600 range.
