With “a city feel,” Winchester Homes’ Capital Series townhomes at South Village have gotten a great response from prospective purchasers, says Nina Goldstein, director of marketing for Winchester Homes. Offered for the first time at this single-family home and townhome community in South Riding, Virginia, these 22-foot-wide townhomes meet different needs for the diverse group of buyers. Some are home buyers who are downsizing or investing, while others are young professionals, says Carol D’Arezzo, community sales manager. This design presents something for everyone, especially with its unique twin balconies along the back. Inset into the building, these porches offer privacy plus two-level views, adds Mark Woods-Hulse, project manager.

A Capital Design

With Winchester Homes “Your Home. Your Way.” customization program, purchasers have choices to make when it comes to where to place windows, closets and kitchens for example, but at South Village, the Capital Series townhome designs are so open and inviting that few things need to be altered.

The recently opened Harrisburg model places the kitchen at the rear of the first floor, which includes nine-foot ceilings. Upgraded Aristokraft maple cabinets, Solaris counters, and Whirlpool cooktops and double wall ovens are among the standard kitchen amenities in these two-zone heated homes. Hardwood flooring in the kitchen, foyer, powder room and garage area entry is another bonus of this design.

Winchester Homes gives buyers the option to extend the kitchen cabinetry to include a neighboring computer station as large or as small as the buyer prefers. In the model, Jerry Bashore, vice president of sales and marketing at Model Home Interiors and Rita Carlson and Ann Walker, senior designers, created a fun and functional at-home office space to accompany the standard high-tech wiring package. Model Home Interiors always incorporates some sort of computer area in each design, says Bashore, who has been decorating Winchester Homes’ models for 20 years.

Another option of this design is to place the standard gas fireplace either in the corner of the dining area or on the lower level in the finished recreation room adjacent to the rear two-car garage. Two other first floor plans offered at South Village, the Hartford and the Trenton, present kitchen variations, such as centering it on the first floor or putting the kitchen along one side.

Going Up

Adding volume ceilings in the upper level’s three bedrooms opens up the sleeping quarters, plus incorporates decorative plant shelves into each room’s design. This creates a challenge for the decorators, who suggest positioning the bed centered with the vaulted ceiling to establish the room’s balance.

Then to give the owner’s suite a certain “spark,” the Model Home Interiors experts used a chaise longue in the sitting area instead of two chairs or a loveseat. Now the homeowner can retreat here or to the adjacent balcony, which is a popular feature of the Harrisburg design, Goldstein says.

The tiled owner’s bath features a separate shower, twin sinks and windows above the soaking tub overlooking the porch. A side window is standard in the end unit.

The Harrisburg model is available with three bedrooms and two full bathrooms upstairs with dual owner’s suites as an option. Both plans feature a second floor laundry room, a hallway linen closet, a balcony in the back, and a staircase open to below.
