More than 200 guests attended the recent grand opening of Trowbridge-Lewis Galleries in Middleburg. The event featured a tour of the gallery at 5 East Washington Street, as well as a tour and garden party at the 200-year-old home leased by gallery owners Adrienne Lewis and Ronald Trowbridge.

Featuring fine art and sculptures by more than 15 American and international artists, Trowbridge-Lewis Galleries includes paintings by Tracy Silva Barbosa and is the exclusive gallery for the sculptures of Alex Kveton, a sculptor working in bronze and mirrored stainless steel. “It’s a beautiful town, a beautiful setting” to showcase his sculptures, Kveton says. The various forms of artwork complement one another, he adds.

“I believe there was unanimous acceptance of the idea that new art can co-exist wonderfully with thousand-year-old antiquities and one-of-a-kind sculptures of steel and glass,” says Dale Sherman, president of Phoenix and Dragon LLC, who supplies Asian antiquities to the gallery. “The art was varied, exciting and, of course, I felt the museum quality antiquity pieces were a very special counterpoint to Adrienne’s hand-picked original art collection. This is going to be ‘the’ destination for people…who are looking for a novel, stimulating way to collect and display their own treasures.”

“It has been my dream for a long time to open a gallery and turn my passion for art collecting into my business,” Lewis says. “I’ve tried to create a friendly and comfortable environment for people to view the art in both a traditional gallery setting and in a historic home. People love the collection and the idea of mixing traditional and contemporary work.” Trowbridge and Lewis are planning a series of events including lectures and discussions that will give people an opportunity to interact with the artists and learn more about the art they create.
