What would area experts select for their own personal dream pools? “A perimeter overflow, all interior glass tiles, and underwater speakers,” says Don Gwiz, vice president of Lewis Aquatech. “There’s nothing nicer than all tile,” he says. A perimeter overflow, where all edges of the pool spill over, plus a pool plan that matches the architecture of the back of the house are high on his list. A chemical-free water purifying system called ozone is “the cream of the crop,” Gwiz adds.

A sunken bar with stone boulders as bar stools would be part of a perfect pool package for Matt Statz, president of Statz Stone & Structure. “I’d like a lagoon-style, free form, natural-shaped pool with large boulders and a grotto, similar to Hugh Hefner’s,” says Statz, who has a design ready for this type of pool.

If there is plenty of land, the experts agree that organic, natural spaces are the way to go. Creating an outdoor setting nestled into the landscaping with a feeling of returning to nature is what James Londot, president of Serene Ponds and Landscapes, prefers for himself and his clients. “My dream pool would have a very large waterfall with both a grotto and a cool spa,” he says. Londot would also like a beach entry, a sundeck, and a bar. “It would have a Caribbean feel.” An in-floor cleaning system that pops up from the bottom, eliminating a visible hose, is another element Gwiz would add to his own personal wish list. “I’d have Barry Dixon design custom furniture for me, too,” he adds.
