Purposeful, interactive dialogue was the focus of the night, and one that carried through to the last glass of Pinot Grigio. A crowd brimming with taste and talent gathered at bulthaup’s panel discussion recently in its clean-lined Cady’s Alley showroom.
The event, sponsored by Washington Spaces, was moderated by Editor in Chief Trish Donnally. Panelists included Lewie Bloom of Bloom Builders Incorporated; Andreas Charalambous of FORMA Design Inc.; Christian Zapatka of Christian Zapatka Architect LLC; Therese Baron Gurney of Baron Gurney Interiors; Robert Gurney of Robert M. Gurney FAIA Architect; Frank Babb Randolph of Frank Babb Randolph Interior Design; and Alison Tilley, showroom manager/designer at bulthaup. They discussed how having coherence of vision among the homeowner, builder, architect, kitchen designer, and interior designer is crucial to a space’s beauty and viability. They reasoned why involving all parties early in a project facilitates creativity and raises potential.
While some roles seem self-evident – those of the architect and builder, say – the panelists underscored the value of communication. Kitchen designers stay abreast of specialized trends and technologies. Interior designers select finishes and furniture to affect the space’s personality, making it livable.
“A great crowd,” Tilley said as the night wound down. “People were engaged.”
