If you think you’re in a Manhattan loft when you visit Midtown North’s Cobalt model, then Jeff Akseizer, principal, Jamie Michael Brown, and Maria Abapolnikova of Akseizer Design Group have fulfilled their mission. “We’re bringing Manhattan style to DC,” says Akseizer, who visited 16 condominium and loft models in New York City to establish the sleek, glamorous, high contrast design he envisioned.
Akseizer excels at adding visual interest with custom millwork to his designs. At this Kettler model, Akseizer worked with Precision Millwork & Cabinetry to create floor-to-ceiling built-ins in the living room to surround the fireplace and conceal the television. Across the room, he incorporated a complementing walnut-stained cherry art wall, which also accents one of the model’s attributes – its 11’ ceilings. Because the units often have exposed structural columns, the design group stained the one in the living room to match the millwork and incorporated a custom bar and cabinetry alongside the column. Akseizer collaborated with Donghia at The Washington Design Center for a quick turnaround of fabrics and with eHome Solutions Inc. for the media components. Most of the furniture is from Bolier & Company.
Midtown North condos range in price from the $400,000s to $1.6 million and also feature a redesigned lobby and hallways by Akseizer Design Group. A fresh approach with sheer-on-sheer window treatments to accentuate the building’s abundant windows and art by Sherry Zvares Sanabria that plays off the columns finish the common areas. Akseizer adds, “Living in a condominium should be as luxurious as living in a residential home.”
