We have lots to celebrate at Washington Spaces as we begin our fourth year with this issue. We thank you sincerely for your interests, ideas, and encouragement as we continue our efforts to make Washington Spaces your preferred magazine for the finest in design in this incredible area in which we live.

In this edition, we feature 33 inspiring pages that reveal the winners of the kitchen category of our first annual Washington Spaces Kitchen & Bath of the Year Awards, the KABYs as we call them. These spaces, the creme de la creme of kitchen design in the metropolitan region, reflect up-to-the-minute culinary ideas. The kitchens range from contemporary to classic with details that span from subtle to sublime. Enjoy the feast that begins on page 35. We’ll announce the bath design winners with the best of the best baths in our Winter 2008 issue.

Meanwhile, don’t miss the sneak peek Sherry Moeller gives us of exceptional holiday tabletops created by some of the leading interior designers in the region. They’re preparing these for the upcoming Georgetown Jingle at the Four Seasons Hotel, Washington, DC, but you can see them here first. Sherry also worked with designers who created magnificent festive fireplaces exclusively for us. Tastemakers from around town contributed great ideas for our gift guide, which was produced by Emily Lyons and Sherry, too.

On a sad note, on behalf of Washington Spaces, I want to express our deepest sympathy for the family of our dear colleague Christine Baity, who succumbed to cancer after a long battle. Christine brought her own special sparkle to our workplace, had a smile for everyone, and a tenderness in her heart. We will miss her.

With that in mind, I encourage you to go all out this holiday season in making your home warm and welcoming for family and friends. None of us knows what tomorrow will bring so we should all celebrate each day we are given.
