They say you should look to the colors in your wardrobe for inspiration in decorating your home. So who better to design a new furniture collection than a fashion stylist? Tina Chai, who styles celebrity photo shoots, New York runways shows, and fashion shoots for magazines such as Harper’s Bazaar and Glamour, is now behind a new collection of furniture for Robin Bruce.

She showed off her groupings recently at the International Home Furnishings Market in High Point, NC. “I love the colors of the red, the pink and the purple,” she says, glancing at a grouping that includes the fabulous Joplin sofa and its companion purple chair, along with the candy-striped Cass slip-covered chairs. “They’re the classic YSL jewel tones.”

Chai’s talent lies not in an individual piece, but in her ability to group seemingly disparate items into a vibrant – and surprising – whole.

Here, in what she calls her “Alice in Wonderland” grouping, she takes a wild, almost childish floral on the Alexa chair to combine with the more sophisticated blue Sedgewick sofa and white Sedgewick chaise, all sitting on top of a green patterned rug.

She can also put a twist on the classic black and white combination with pink piping on toile, moving the toile to pillows on a white sofa alongside pink pillows, and then pairing them with a striped chaise on top of a black and white rug in yet another pattern.

“This I love because it’s something you would see in a Left Bank apartment.”

Chai’s collection will be available in stores in July. Click “here” for local retailers.
