Designer Amy Lau on First Dibs

I first found out about Amy Lau when I saw pictures of her design (above and below) in the Kips Bay Decorator Show House in New York two years ago.

To this day, I can’t get her beachy room, electrified by citron, cobalt, and turquoise, out of my mind.

That’s why I was excited to see a long profile of her this week on First Dibs. I loved reading about her Arizona roots and the influence of a very artistic grandmother. Best of all, I found out that she is developing a nature-inspired product line for Heath Ceramics, which is known for its organic shapes and earthy color.

I went to her Web site to peruse her portfolio, and I’m most struck by the way she uses artistic elements, whether they be a collage of sculpture across a wall, a menagerie of candlesticks, explosive color, or inlaid patterns, which jump out from an otherwise placid setting.

Here’s some of what I mean.

I’m becoming an addict of the First Dibs profile series, known as Style Compass, which features the likes of White House Designer Michael S. Smith, Hollywood regency queen Kelly Wearstler, and Oprah’s favorite designer, Nate Berkus. It’s definitely worth a browse.
