Back In: Wallpaper Murals
It seems to take about 20 years for fashion and design concepts to circle back in style - consider the resurgence of all things ’80s. Sure enough, skinny jeans are everywhere.
Another ’80s trend making a comeback? Wallpaper murals. Still big, still bold, but thankfully less tacky than in the past. And as local Interior Designer Lori Ludwick of InDesign showcased in her Washington Spaces 2009 Best of Remodeling award-winning design, the right jumbo-sized image can add much-needed depth to a small space. Be sure to check out Ludwick’s design in our Summer issue and read on for more mural ideas.

A few I’m considering for my home:

Bonsai at the National Arboretum

Lonely road in Texas’ Panhandle

Horses in Arizona’s Navajo Country
That’s such a good idea for children’s rooms! I hate the standard animal/cartoon prints - having a mural of family pet & their name is an ingenious idea!
I had never thought of using a mural for my bedroom, but I have an empty wall that could be used to give my room an enlarged feeling. Thanks for the blog, keep up the good work.
Go with the Bonsai! That would bring a relaxing vibe to any room.
I agree, great for kids’ rooms! I can also see this becoming a cool outlet for modern artists; whereas some of the designs above feel like computer screen backgrounds, how would actual fine art pieces look? I like the idea of some abstract work of art on the ENTIRE wall. I also would love to see a wider range of concepts and aesthetics in general; particularly some more subtle or natural designs/color schemes. I pass a design showroom on my way to work every day, and they have a bamboo wallpaper mural up; the bamboo is smaller (more life-size) and the colors are more natural, and I love it!
I never came across such a nice and unique wall mural. It would look nice not only in children’s room but also in dining room and in bedroom.
